和

Since 2024, I have been creating multiple prints, chanting thousands of 和, as an act of worship and devotion.

During the New Year, people in East Asia often visit a scholar to receive a character that embodies their wishes for the year ahead. Most of the time, people choose characters like 財 (Tài — wealth), 祿 (Lộc — fortune), or 忍 (Nhẫn — patience). I choose 和 (Hoà — harmony).

和 (Hoà) is the state of the universe where everything aligns. — “Thiên thời, địa lợi, nhân hoà” (As above, so below).
和 (Hoà) calls for the mediation between human and non-human.
和 (Hoà) calls for peace.
和 (Hoà) is a call for us to return and immerse ourselves back into nature.
